The Barnardo’s Positive Identities Service provides support to children, young people, families and professionals around sexuality and gender identity. We work with young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and other related identities (LGBT+), those who may be questioning their gender identity and/or sexuality, and their with families and other professionals supporting them, empowering them to support young people with their identity.
We run a variety of different areas of support, including 121 support for young people, support for families, and support for trans parents & carers. We work mostly within North and West Yorkshire, however our online support around gender identity is available to young people, their families and trans parents & carers across the North of England. Please visit our Support section to find out what we have available in your area.
We also offer training to professionals, supporting schools, children and young people’s services practitioners and community groups to ensure their organisation is inclusive and accessible to LGBT+ young people, their teams are proactively challenging discrimination and prejudice, and are confident in supporting young people & families around gender identity and sexuality. More information about the training and support we offer to professionals and community groups can be found in our Support for Professionals section.
