The Darlington CAMHS team provides a service for children and young people up to the age of 18 who may be experiencing a mental health problem, including ADHD.
In addition, there is a CAMHS team specifically for Children and Young People with a diagnosed Learning Disability to ensure that the needs of children, young people and families are met in the most appropriate way. The team also:
• Provides support and consultation for family members, carers and workers from health, social services and educational or voluntary services
• Promotes positive mental health in children and young people.
The Darlington CAMHS team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists, working alongside an administrative team. A wide range of treatments and therapies may be offered, including:
• Play therapy
• Family work
• Mindfulness based therapy
• Group work.
Most children and young people are referred to the service by GPs but referrals are accepted from other health professionals, health visitors, school nurses/counsellors, social services, voluntary services or other services working with children and young people.
The child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) across County Durham and Darlington has a single point of access for referrals and self-referrals to CAMHS services. Families and young people can self refer. To contact the team please email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0300 1239296.
