Overview

NIWE Eating Distress Service was set up in 1988 in response to a need for support around eating distress such as not being able to eat or restricting the intake of food, eating and getting rid of food, compulsively eating and other issues. Eating distress, often referred to as eating disorders, occurs most often when an individual is feeling unable to cope with areas of their day-to-day life. This often begins when an individual is attempting to take control in one area of their life, whilst feeling they have lost all control in other areas.

In 2021 we re-branded to Eating Distress North East (EDNE) to reflect the fact we work with anyone with eating distress: women, men, trans and non-binary individuals.

In 2022 we appointed a new Chief Executive and we currently employ 12 staff members and several sessional counsellors.
