A NHS England commissioned mental health services for people who are Deaf and/or with hearing loss and communication barriers. Some of them might have dual sensory impairment and concurrent physical and neurological difficulties. It is a tertiary service and hence the referrals are likely internal that the patients are already open to the local secondary (mental health and learning disability) teams. The service provides information, consultation, assessment and treatment alongside the secondary teams with a focus on Deaf people's accessibility, wellbeing, safety and recovery. The service has encouraged Deaf people to access health and care services using online or digital platforms where possible. Deaf digital inclusion training has been co-created with local Deaf-led organisations since 2020 and delivered to Deaf people living in Durham and Tees Valley. The service also support carers, families and friends associated with Deaf people and can be involved in the transition of Deaf young persons to adult services.
